Library Use Policy
The purpose of Athenian's Library is to provide members of the school community with information, materials and services in an inviting place where people gather, learn and celebrate for diverse and unique institution.
All members of the Athenian community are encouraged to use our Library for activities supported by this purpose such as:
- Reading books, magazines, and newspapers
- Doing research and homework
- Asking questions and getting assistance
- Checking out and returning Library materials
- Attending special Library programs and meetings
Library Users are encouraged to maintain the following standards:
- Maintain a clean environment including leaving food and drinks outside the Library
- Maintain an atmosphere that allows other users to focus and study by keeping conversation at a level, character, and length that will not disturb others
- Use Library computers in accordance with the Athenian Acceptable Use Policy, this includes no gaming or visiting social network sites, no streaming media (including MP3 files), etc. without written faculty consent
- Respect all Library furniture, computers and other resources and facilities and avoid altering or removing any items
- Refrain from sleeping or engaging in disruptive behavior while using Library facilities
Individuals who do not keep to these standards may be asked to leave the Library, and may be subject to additional disciplinary action as deemed necessary.
All Athenian students, parents, faculty and staff are encouraged to check out Library materials by following these guidelines:
- Any materials that are removed from the Library must be formally checked out.
- Books in the general collection may be checked out for three (3) weeks at a time.
- Videotapes and DVD's may be checked out OVERNIGHT.
- Reference materials may be checked out OVERNIGHT with approval from a Library staff person.
- Magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals may NOT be checked out.
- All materials that leave the Library should be returned in the same condition.
- Fines are not imposed for overdue materials.
- Individuals will be held accountable for the replacement cost of lost, damaged, or destroyed items including shipping and handling fees and applicable taxes.
Replacement cost is a minimum of $25.00.
- Prior faculty approval is required before individuals with overdue Library materials may check out additional materials.
These guidelines have been designed to protect Library users, staff and materials. The Library reserves the right to exclude a patron if the patron damages Library property, injures other Library patrons or staff or disrupts Library business.
